A woodland scene
Habitat Development
Goshawk
State forests are managed to produce sustainable harvests to maintain forest health, develop habitat and generate predictable revenue.

On westside forests, a technical approach called structure based management is being used.

On the Oregon Department of Forestry’s eastside forest, the approach being used is called uneven-age management.

Both of these approaches depart from the conventional even-age harvesting approach used on most private industrial forestland that seeks to maximize revenue production. These approaches also differ from the largely unmanaged federal forestland that seeks to maintain mature forests.
