K-12 Benchmarks for Success

Teresa Grossi, PhD, is a nationally known educator, returning to Seattle on April 30, 2008, to present K-12 Benchmarks for Success for students with developmental disabilities. This interactive session is for school staff, educators, teachers and para-educators who work with students with developmental disabilities kindergarten through graduation and others who may have an interest in ensuring that those students have the supports to progress to a successful adult life. Employment Training Opportunities in King County

Social Security Trainings: This is a series that is specifically targeted to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. The topics include an overview of the Social Security system, work incentives and information to assist individuals with disabilities to manage their benefits while working. Individuals with disabilities, providers, advocates and others interested in Social Security and employment issues are welcome. For more information contact Scott Leonard or Kelley Faulkner.

School to Work Orientations: These are information sessions for families and individuals with developmental disabilities who are interested in the King County School to Work Program, which is for students with developmental disabilities (ages 20-21 in the last year of school) who want to graduate with a job. For more information contact Kelley Faulkner.

Transition Fairs: These are resource fairs for students with developmental disabilities (ages 14-21), their families, educators and employment providers. The Transition Fairs will allow students, family members and educators to get to know and interview vocational providers. There will also be booths for other community providers including state agencies, parks and recreation, housing resources and more. Classes on transition and related topics will also be offered to attendees. For more information contact Kelley Faulkner or Cheryl Green.
