They are quite capable of making your system unusable.

Here is a easy way to check the status of your sent e-mail to see if it's been delivered, opened and/or deleted.
To check the status of e-mail sent items:
Open the Sent Items folder
Rigth click on sent e-mail
Select Properties
Under the Action heading you will see the status of the e-mail (it should provide information such as time delivered, opened and deleted - if applicable)
Please bear in mind that this procedure will only check the status of e-mails sent within USUHS via Group Wise.
Wouldn't it be great to have all the web pages you frequent, run when you start the computer?
All you need to do is drop some shortcuts into your Startup Folder. Here's how:
First, open Internet Explorer (this trick can be done with Netscape too, but it works better with Explorer) and head to a page you want to see when your computer starts.
Next, grab the little " e " next to the address and drag it over to the Start button. Don't let go, just hover over the button for a couple seconds. The Start menu should open.
Now, (still holding the mouse button down), move up to the Programs menu. The Programs menu should open.
Finally, move your mouse to the Startup folder (it will be underlined). Again, point to it for a second and it should open up. Drop the shortcut into it and you're all set. Make sure you drop the shortcut into the Startup Menu and NOT into the Programs menu by accident.
At some point in time you have probably received unwanted emails, whether it be unsolicited emails, advertisements, or emails from a particular email address. Well, in GroupWise Client there is a way to filter those emails.
To create a rule that automatically sends unwanted email to your recycle bin please follow the steps below.
Open Groupwise client
Click on Tools and select Rule
In the Rules box click New
Give the Rule a name, e.g. junk email, click the Mail checkbox, then click Define Conditions
Select the item that you want to define in the Define Conditions box
Type in the box a specific word or phrase that is in the email that you want to filter, then click OK
NOTE: It is very important to get this to match exactly to the unwanted email. You don't want the word or phrase to match other emails that you want to keep.
Click on "Add Action" and select "Delete/Decline"
Click OK
Click Save
Click Close and you're done
You can have multiple entries within each rule by adding multiple entries in Define Conditions by changing End in the listbox to OR. You also can have multiple rules.
Below are some neat features to utilize with using Microsoft Word.
Open a large document and can't remember where you left off?
Shift+F5 to jump to the last place in the document you edited
If you need to apply the same changes to text throughout a document:
Press Ctrl+D
Make changes in Font dialogue box
Click OK
Select next set of text to alter in the same way
Press F4
You can change the default folder in which Word saves documents:
Open Word
Click Tools
Click Options
Click File Locations tab
Highlight Documents
Click Modify
Change the Look in option to the drive you wish to use
Highlight the folder you want to save your documents in
Click OK
Click OK
Configure Word to automatically save your documents:
Open Microsoft Word
Click Tools, Options
Click Save
Place a check mark in the box "Save AutoRecover info every"
set the time in minutes as desired
Click OK
If you have multiple Word documents open, you can quickly cycle through open Documents by pressing CTRL+F6
Using Watermarks in Word:
Open Word document
Click Format, Background, Printed Watermark
Select Text watermark
Type the text you want to use or choose from the predefined options
Choose your formatting options
Click OK
Note you can also select an image for a watermark by selecting Picture watermark

Now, drag any icons that aren't being used on a regular basis to the folder. Some of the icons are stubborn and refuse to live anywhere but the desktop, so you'll find you can't move them. Most of them will make the transition with no complaints though.

Having a hard time finding something online? Does it seem like you type in your search term but don't get anywhere near what you're looking for? Well, here's a couple of tricks that seem (almost) universal between search engines.
Let's say you're looking for sports cars and all you're getting is information on baseball and football (sports). What can you do? Try some of the following:
Try: sports +cars
Most search engines will interpret this as meaning you only want results that have both the word "sports" and "cars" in them. Some search engines let you us the word "and" to do this as well (i.e. sports and cars).
You can also try to exclude terms. Let's say you still aren't getting what you want with sports cars (you still keep getting baseball info). Try something like: sports +cars -baseball
The "-" sign tells most search engines to exclude results that have whatever word it is that has the "-" in front of it. (Don't put a space between the - and the word to be excluded though!)
If the above seems too confusing, most search engines have an "advanced search" option that gives you a web-style way to help you accomplish the same thing. Instead of using "+ / -" they use drop down boxes and option buttons. It is usually easier to search this way, although it's probably faster to use steps 1 and 2.
Also, you may want to try using quotes. If you type in: "sports cars"
You should only get results that match that exact phrase in that exact order. Sometimes that can narrow things down considerably.
USUHS Instruction 5202.2, entitled Electronic Information and Communication Policies, paragraph C, item number 6 states: "E-mail messages will automatically be removed from the central server after a maximum of 60 days. The Automated Information System Policy Committee (AISPC) is granted authority to refuse this storage if necessary to meet system limitations. Messages required for longer retention should be moved to local memory devices." This inlcudes e-mail in folders that are created within GroupWise.
As this is a continuous process, whatever e-mail that you want to keep longer than 60 days needs to be archived. Below are instructions on how to archive your e-mail using the GroupWise client.
To set up the archive folder
Create a new folder on your C:\ drive (not in your GroupWise folder).
Open GroupWise client from your own account.
Select Tools from the menu bar.
Select Options from the pull-down menu.
A new window will open! Double click Environment.
Select File location.
Under the Archive directory type in the path of the folder you created or click the folder icon on the right to search for the folder name.
Once the folder is found, click OK
Click Close.
After you have set up the folder for your archive e-mail you may choose to do one of the following:
To manually archive e-mail
In your GroupWise client mailbox highlight the e-mail that you want to archive.
Select Actions under the menu bar.
Select Archive.
To automatically archive e-mail
Create a new folder on your C:\ drive (not in GroupWise folder).
Open GroupWise client from your own account.
Select Tools from the menu bar.
select Options from the pull-down menu.
A new window will open. Double click Environment.
Select Cleanup.
Under Mail and Phone, click Auto-archive, then select the number of days (must be less than 60) that you would like your mail to be archived.
Click OK.
Click Close.
To open your archive
Under File, click open archive.
It's that easy and everytime you send a message, spell check will be accomplished prior to sending.
You can spell-check your messages automatically before sending them. Click Tools > Options > double-click Environment > select Check Spelling Before Send.

02/12/04- Creating Rules in GroupWise WebAccess:
You can use rules in GroupWise WebAccess to define actions that you want to be performed on items you receive. For example, you can forward or reply to messages or move messages to folders. Rules can help you organize your Mailbox, automate your Mailbox while you are away, or delete unwanted items.
You can edit any rules you create in GroupWise WebAccess. If you've created rules using another version of the GroupWise client, you will be able to edit those rules provided they do not contain more capabilities than GroupWise WebAccess allows you to set.
Follow the steps below to create a rule:
Once you are in your account in GroupWise WebAccess click on the Options icon (it is the middle icon from the three at the top of the page).
Select Rules
Select the type of rule you want to create:
Delete: Moves an item to the Trash.
Forward: Forwards an item to the recipients you specify.
Move to Folder: Moves an item to the folder you specify.
Reply: Generates a reply to an item. The reply can go to the sender of the item only (Reply to Sender) or to all recipients of the item (Reply All). Select Reply to Sender only.
Vacation: Generates a reply to all new items you receive.
Click Create to display the Create Rule form.
Type the name you want to use for the rule.
Define an optional condition to limit the items that are affected by the rule. If you do not define an optional condition, the rule will be applied to all new items you receive. You cannot define an optional condition for the Vacation rule. The Vacation rule is applied to all items.
Define the actions that you want performed when the rule is applied. The actions vary depending on the type of rule you are creating. For example, if you are creating a rule to reply to items, you would select whether you want to reply to the sender only or the sender and all recipients. When moving an item to a folder, you select the destination folder.
Click Save to save the rule to the Rules list.
Note: By default, the rule is automatically activated. If you don't want the rule active at this time, deselect the rule's Activate box, click Save OR to keep the rule active, click Close.
02/06/04- Permanently Deleting A File in One Easy Step (PC Only): When files are deleted, the file is not removed from the PC, but stored in the recycle bin. At this point, you have to go to the recycle bin and remove it from there. It works, but there's a better way.
Next time your 100% sure, without a doubt, for certain, that you want to delete a file, hold your Shift key down while you delete. The file will be deleted - skipping the Recycle Bin completely.
CTRL-Z is normally used in word processing documents, but it also works
just about anywhere in windows. Let's say you accidentally drag an icon
to your desktop and really wish you had it to do over. Well, hit CTRL-Z
and the icon vacates your desktop and jumps back to wherever it was
before.
Works with Windows Explorer too. Let's say you accidentally delete a
file. Instead of going to the recycle bin to recover it, hit CTRL-Z.
Note that this only works if you are sending the file to the recycle
bin. If you hold down the SHIFT key while you delete (bypasses the
recycle bin) the file is lost. All the CTRL-Z ing in the world won't
help.
01/08/04- Microsoft Word 2000 Using Shortcut Keys:
Do you find that using the keyboard is sometimes quicker than using your mouse? Shortcut keys can help you bypass menus and carry out commands directly. You can use shortcut keys in many ways with Word, from accessing commands and tool bar buttons to repeating your last action. Shortcut keys are sometimes listed next to the command name on Word menus. For example, on the Edit menu, the Find command lists the shortcut CTRL+F.
For a comprehensive list of shortcut, press F1 to display Microsoft Word Help, and then type Keyboard Shortcut in the text box.
Here are some of the most useful Word shortcut keys:
