VIRUS INFORMATION
A computer virus is a program that is written by someone to deliberately destroy data on a computer. All USU, HJF and leased machines come with Norton Antivirus software installed on them. They also should be scheduled for routine Live Updates.
Most viruses are contracted through shared disks, pirated software, e-mail and downloading from the Internet.
The UIS Helpdesk suggests practicing safe computing and ensuring safeguards are in place. You should:
- Periodically scan for viruses on you system
- Never use pirated software
- Scan all floppy and zip disks before using them
- Delete e-mail from senders you do not recognize
- Take caution whenever downloading from the internet
