Research District
Richland, Washington is home to Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. With vast space surrounding our campus, the area is ripe for technology-based economic development.
The Port of Benton and its economic development partners have teamed together to develop and market the 1,600-acre Tri-Cities Research District in north Richland. The District's (see map) current 85 tenants employ more than 5,000 people and include science/tech/manufacturing, educational institutions, government, restaurants and other services, and residential/mixed use.
In 2006, Angelou Economics developed marketing and land-use plans for the Research District. The consulting firm's assessments and recommendations were presented to the community, which received them enthusiastically. Since that time, a developer has purchased much of the land and hired an architect to develop a master plan for what may be a sustainability-themed technology park in the District.
