Q: How do I access the Library’s electronic resources from offsite or via Visitor Net?
The Research Library’s EZproxy service provides remote (offsite) and Visitor Net access to electronic resources from the Library, such as ejournals, databases, e-books, online reports and standards that would otherwise require you to be onsite.
License agreements for many of the Library’s electronic resources require that they be restricted for access to LANL employees only. Some examples are SearchPlus, electronic journals and the online version of CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics. This restriction requires that you access the Library’s electronic resources from either a machine on the LANL network or via the Library’s EZproxy service.
Q: What are the requirements for using EZproxy?
- Status as a current LANL employee.
- Possess an activated CryptoCard.
- Web access and FireFox, Internet Explorer, Netscape or Safari web browser.
- Cookies and javascript enabled in your browser and pop-up blockers disabled.
Q: How do I use EZproxy?
Login to EZproxy with your Z# and CryptoCard passcode.
Once authenticated for access, you will be redirected to the Research Library home page. From this page you can access the Library’s electronic resources as you normally would.
Q: What do I need to know about using EZproxy?
- EZproxy does not require installation of additional software or configuration of your web browser.
- The Library is using self-signed certificate information to encrypt your Z# and CryptoCard passcode. You have the option to accept this certificate temporarily or to permanently add it to your browser list of such certificates.
- Bookmarks do not work well in EZproxy.
- EZproxy does not work with the AOL browser.
- To renew books or place requests in the Library’s catalog, you will need still need to login to the catalog after connecting via EZproxy.
Q: What do I do if I have problems with EZproxy?
To troubleshoot problems, please first try these suggestions:
- Close all browser windows
- Relaunch your browser
- Clear your browser cache
- Connect to EZproxy and retry access.
If the problem persists, contact the library eservice team, or call the Library’s Service Desk at 505-667-5809.
Q: What is EZproxy and how does it work?
EZproxy is a service that provides users with remote access to web-based licensed electronic resources. EZproxy authenticates you as a valid member of the LANL community and acts as a gateway to licensed electronic resources on the Internet, allowing you to be identified as coming from the lanl.gov domain regardless of where you are physically located at the time.
EZproxy works by dynamically altering the URLs within the web pages provided by a publisher or vendor. The server names within the URLs of these web pages are changed to reflect the EZproxy server instead, causing LANL users to return to the EZproxy server as they access links on these web pages. The result is a seamless access environment without the need for automatic proxy configuration files. EZproxy only alters references to web pages, so if a publisher or vendor provides additional links to other free web pages on the Internet, these are left as-is. In this manner, if you elect to follow one of these links, the EZproxy server is automatically taken out of the communication loop.
