Filing Complaints

We protect and educate consumers by:

  • Researching your question/problem with an insurance company or agent and advocating on your behalf
  • Helping you get a clear answer to your question
  • Explaining insurance laws and rules and your rights as consumers

We can't:

  • Give legal advice or be part of a pending lawsuit
  • Recommend an insurance company or agent
  • Force a company to pay claims, refund premiums or change something if the company is following the law and its contract

Complaint forms

  • Electronic (Fill out and submit online)
  • Print version (Print form and mail or fax)

What happens when I file a complaint?

An advocate will:

  • Let you know we received your complaint
  • Give a copy of your complaint to the insurance company or agent and ask for an explanation
  • Decide what to do next based on all the information
  • Advise you of our findings

How long will it take?

Most complaints are resolved within 60 days but it depends on the type of complaint.

Confidentiality

Complaints are confidential. However,

  • A copy will be sent to the insurance company/agent named in the complaint.
