Continuous Real-Time Water Information-- A Vital Kansas Asset
By Lanna J. Combs, James E. Putnam, and Andrew C. Ziegler
Abstract
Continuous real-time information on streams, lakes, and ground water is a vital Kansas asset
that helps safeguard lives and property and ensures adequate water resources for a healthy State economy.
A new U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Fact Sheet describes the real-time USGS water information that is available to everyone on the Internet.
The USGS, with offices in Hays, Lawrence, and Wichita, operates almost 200 water-monitoring stations that collect continuous flow,
water-quality, and water-level information on Kansas streams, lakes, and ground water. The majority of these stations are jointly funded in
partnerships with local, tribal, State, or other Federal agencies.
