MISSION
The mission of the Department of Corrections is to promote public safety by holding offenders accountable for their actions and reducing the risk of future criminal behavior. Linn County Parole and Probation accomplishes this mission by creating a continuum of sanctions and incentives and by identifying evidence-based treatment options to encourage positive behavioral change.
STAFFING
The Linn County Parole and Probation Office is staffed with 26 employees. Supervision of offenders is approached in three ways:
1. Sex offenders are supervised by officers who have received specialized training in the supervision of offenders with sex offense convictions.
2. High-risk offenders who are not convicted of a sex crime are assigned to officers based on the location of the offender's residence. These officers will have their caseload in one of the following areas: Albany, Lebanon, Sweet Home, South County or North County.
3. Low-risk offenders are monitored on large casebanks. This allows more resources to be directed to the high-risk offenders.
DUTIES
Linn County Parole and Probation is responsible for the supervision of approximately 1,600 offenders. About 190 of these offenders are on supervision for a sex offense. P&P officers monitor and enforce the conditions of supervision ordered by the Court, Local Supervisory Authority, or the Board of Parole. Officers monitor offenders through home and office visits, urinalysis drug testing, treatment monitoring, and polygraph testing.
Utilizing validated assessment tools, motivational interviewing skills, and evidenced-based intervention programs, P&P officers intervene when violations first occur and impose a continuum of sanctions with the goal of keeping the offender from committing a new crime. Sanctions include counseling, treatment, community service, work crew, electronic home detention and jail.
