The U. S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) launched an Alliance Initiative by signing an agreement with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) as the first Alliance partner. SHRM and ODEP have made a commitment to work together to encourage and promote the employment of people with disabilities.
The Alliance Initiative is open to both public and private-sector organizations that would like to work with ODEP to enhance the recruitment, hiring, employment and advancement of people with disabilities. On March 1, 2007, former Assistant Secretary W. Roy Grizzard, Jr. issued an Alliance Directive, which spells out the guidelines and criteria for Alliance partnerships.
