Explosives Enforcement Officers (EEOs)

EEOs offer unequaled technical expertise in the explosives and bomb disposal fields. They are ATF’s primary resource when it comes to technical assistance and support in explosives matters. Their responsibilities include:

• Providing technical advice on Federal storage regulations;
• Handling explosives;
• Conducting threat and vulnerability assessments both domestically and abroad;
• Constructing facsimiles of explosives devices;
• Preparing destructive device determinations for court proceedings; and
• Providing expert technical assistance to special agents at a scene.

EEOs keep ATF abreast of the latest technology related to explosives, and issue classifications for new explosives and materials. The EEO’s are located regionally and can be contacted through the local ATF field office.
