National Rural Funders
Collaborative
On June 20, 2003, four USDA agencies (Natural
Resources and Conservation Service, Rural
Development Mission Area, Forest Service,
and CSREES) signed a Statement of Cooperation
with the National Rural Funders Collaborative
(NRFC) to announce their intent to work together
on behalf of rural families and communities.
Held in Washington, DC, at USDA, the signing
launched a unique public-private partnership
between the philanthropic community and federal
agencies. Over the previous year, partners
to the agreement worked to identify ways
to link programs, research, education, and
outreach activities at the local, state,
and national levels. The resulting collaborations
will expand resources available to rural
Americans and support comprehensive, locally
led community and economic development initiatives.
NRFC is
a 10-year initiative supported by more than
a dozen private foundations including the
Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation, Otto Bremer
Foundation, Calvert Social Investment Foundation,
Annie E. Casey Foundation, Fannie Mae Foundation,
William Randolph Hearst Foundation, F.B.
Heron Foundation, William and Flora Hewlett
Foundation, Ford Foundation, W.K. Kellogg
Foundation, and Lumina Foundation for Education.
NRFC and the USDA partners share the goals
of expanding opportunity and improving the
quality of life for rural Americans.
