What States Are on the 2016 Honor Roll List?
Fifteen states are included in AAFA’s Honor Roll this year! Congratulations to:

How the State Honor Roll Report Works
The report checks to see how every state compares against 23 key measures that affect people with asthma and allergies in schools. States make the honor roll when they hit 18 of 23 targets.
AAFA Divides the 23 Targets into Three Categories:
- Medication and treatment
- Awareness
- School environment
Policy Areas Include:
- School nurse-to-student ratios
- Allowing students to carry and administer their asthma and anaphylaxis medications
- School building indoor air quality policies
- Smoking bans and cessation programs
2016 Spotlight Reports:
Our Work Isn’t Done: What Policymakers, Advocates and Parents Can Do Next
- Continue efforts to require stocking of quick-relief medicine in schools. Make sure schools are equipped to obtain the medicine and know how to use it.
- Increase the number of school nurses.
- Remove barriers to putting these laws into practice, whether that means more funding, awareness or training.
- Refresh programs to improve air quality, both for outside air pollution and controlling pests in the school environment.
- Encourage innovation and partnerships between government and private companies (public-private partnerships).
