King County Stress Less
Stress can be difficult to define because it is a sensation associated with various symptoms that affect each of us differently. In some cases stress can be helpful and in some cases stress can be a major cause of illness and disability.
It is important to be able to recognize the signs of stress. Stress can have both a physical and mental impact. Being able to identify your body’s reaction to stress is the key to learning how to identify stressful events and to effectively manage your stress.
Many people underestimate the stressors in their life. Stressors can occur both at work and at home. In addition, happy or pleasant events, such as a new marriage, new job or new baby, can be a stressor if they cause significant change or loss of control. Any situation that seems threatening, unsatisfying, frustrating or which makes your feel powerless can be a stressor. Recognizing the stressors in your life is an important step on the road to managing your stress.
