BLUE HERON CAMPGROUND, Big South Fork National River, KY

Description:

The Blue Heron Campground is located on the northern portion of the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. Nearby southeastern Kentucky attractions include the Daniel Boone National Forest, Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, the Big South Fork Scenic Railway, and the Stearns Museum. Amenities include flush toilets, hot showers, playground, campfire circle, pay phone, stores within short driving distance, paved interior roads, trailer dump station free of charge to paid campers, and hiking trails.

Alerts and Important Information

Black bears and other wildlife inhabit the area. Special storage regulations for food and garbage are strictly enforced. Hazardous tree area due to southern pine beetle damage. Beware of broken limbs and damaged trees that may fall at any time. Pets are allowed in the campground and must be restrained on a leash at all times. Pets may not be left unattended. You are responsible for cleaning up after your pet. Fires are allowed in fire rings only. These include a cooking grate. 1-75 Northbound: take exit 141 for Oneida/Huntsville and turn left. Follow Hwy 63 to the intersection of US 27 in Huntsville. Turn right and continue north on US 27 through Oneida 18 miles to KY 92 West. Continue west on KY 92 West and travel approximately 1.3 miles. Bear left onto Hwy 1651. Travel about .5 miles then turn right onto KY 741 (this road is narrow, if you have a big rig it is suggested that you continue on 1651 another three quarter mile and turn a sharp right onto KY 742). From KY 741 or KY 742 follow the brown park signs. I-75 Southbound: Take exit 62 at Mt. Vernon and turn right onto Hwy 461. Travel about 19 miles to Hwy 80. Take Hwy 80 Westward to the Hwy 914 by-pass. Follow Hwy 914 for 6 miles to the intersection of US 27. Turn left onto US 27 and travel south approximately 31 miles. Turn right onto KY 92. Continue West on KY 92 West and travel approximately 1.3 miles. Bear left onto Hwy 1651. Travel about .5 miles then turn right onto KY 741 (this road is narrow, if you have a big rig it is suggested that you continue on 1651 another three quarter mile and turn a sharp right onto KY 742). From KY 741 or KY 742 follow the brown park signs.
