Additional smoking and tobacco cessation benefits

Additional smoking and tobacco cessation benefits are available under the KingCare medical plan in 2008:

This plan covers:

  • Acupuncture to ease nicotine withdrawal
  • Hypnotherapy to ease nicotine withdrawal
  • Prescription drugs to ease nicotine withdrawal, inhalers and sprays are covered through Caremark and are covered at 100% (no copay); non-prescription nicotine patches and gum are covered at 100% through Aetna
  • Smoking cessation programs, including a Tobacco Quit Line, through Harris HealthTrends (covered at 100%); other smoking cessation programs are covered at the non-network rate, but to receive benefits for non-network smoking cessation programs, you must complete the full course of treatment.

No medical plan benefits are provided for:

  • Books or tapes
  • Inpatient services
  • Vitamins, minerals or other supplements.

KingCare Basic:

  • 100% network services
  • 60% non-network services
  • Prescription drugs to ease nicotine withdrawal, inhalers and sprays covered by Caremark at 100% (no copay)
  • Non-prescription nicotine patches and gum covered by Aetna at 100%

KingCare Preferred:

  • 100% network services
  • 70% non-network services
  • Prescription drugs to ease nicotine withdrawal, inhalers and sprays covered by Caremark at 100% (no copay)
  • Non-prescription nicotine patches and gum covered by Aetna at 100%

Group Health:

  • 100% for 1 Group Health network provider program/year
  • 1 course of nicotine replacement/year (prescription benefit copay applies) when prescribed by Group Health network provider if the member is actively participating in Free and Clear Program
