![]() ![]() Feb. 13, 2008 Make sure your vote counts in next week's electionElection Day is only one week away and King County Elections has the following reminders to make sure all voters have the information necessary for a successful Election Day. Sign the political party oath Unique to this election, each voter is required to sign a political party oath in order for their vote for the presidential candidate to count. If you decide to vote for a presidential candidate, make sure that oath is marked. Once your ballot is received by King County Elections, there is not an opportunity to make any corrections. According to the party oath, a voter who participated in one party’s caucus may not vote for a candidate from the other party. A voter can participate in both the caucus and the primary, as long as they vote within the same political party’s slate of candidates. Local ballot measures In addition to the presidential candidates, nearly 12 percent of King County voters will find local measures on the back of their ballot. Eligible voters may vote on these issues regardless of whether they participate in the presidential primary and affiliate with a political party or attended a caucus. For a list of ballot measures on the Feb. 19 ballot, visit http://www.metrokc.gov/elections/200802/measurelist.asp. Extended hours To accommodate the public, King County Elections will be open Saturday, Feb. 16 from 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to issue replacement ballots. Monday, Feb. 18 is a federal holiday and King County Elections will not be open to the public. Absentee voters Election Day is the day after Presidents Day, a federal and postal holiday. Voters are urged to consider mailing their ballots before the holiday, to make sure their ballot is returned on-time. To be counted, mail ballots must be postmarked by Feb. 19. Ballots without postage can be returned to any polling place on Election Day. Poll voters While a majority of King County voters opt to cast their ballot by mail, King County has not yet transitioned to entirely vote-by-mail. Poll voters will still be able to visit their polling place on Tuesday, Feb. 19, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Use the “Your Voter Guide” at http://www.kingcounty.gov/elections/ to confirm and find directions to your neighborhood polling place or refer to your most recent voter registration card.
