King County opens filing period for Personnel Board candidatesCandidates seeking the elected representative position on the King County Personnel Board must file their candidacy with King County Elections during a one week filing period, May 8 through 12, 2006. The Personnel Board conducts hearings on appeals to certain personnel actions as provided for in Section 540 of the King County Charter. The Personnel Board consists of five members, four of whom are appointed, and one member elected by King County career service employees, approximately 11,000 people. The elected term is five years. The charter requires an elected representative on the Personnel Board who is a resident of the state of Washington and not currently employed by King County. The candidate filing period will be held Monday, May 8 through Friday, May 12 in the King County Elections office located in the King County Administration Building at 500 Fourth Avenue, Room 553 in Seattle. There is a $5 filing fee. A primary will be held on Tuesday, June 6 to determine the final nominees up for election on Tuesday, June 27. The primary and election will be conducted through the mail. If any candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote in the primary, they will be deemed elected and no further election will be conducted. Only career service county employees are eligible to cast ballots.
