- Globally distributed plankton data and
associated metadata, with over 95,000 plankton biomass observations,
and over one million taxonomic observations. You can customize a search
for plankton data by using WODselect,
or go to the NODC plankton webpage.
- Coral Reef Information System - A single point of access to NOAA's coral reef data products and information.
- Harmful Algal Blooms Observing System (HABSOS) - An integrated information and communication system at the National Coastal Data Development Center (NCDDC) for managing HAB
data and events. Also at NCDDC is the Gulf of Mexico Hypoxia Watch, which uses near-real-time shipboard measurements of bottom dissolved oxygen to develop Internet advisories on anoxic and hypoxic conditions in the western and north-central Gulf of Mexico.
- Biological
Atlas of the Arctic Seas 2000: Plankton
of the Barents and Kara Seas - physical and biological data for
the region extending from the Barents Sea to the Kara Sea during 158
scientific cruises for the period 1913 - 1999. The online link is
above; click here for
information about the CD-ROM version.
- Zooplankton
of the Arctic Seas 2002 on CD-ROM - International Ocean Atlas
Series: Volume 6 (1 disc)
- Chlorophyll
data at NODC.
- Biological
Species Codes/Names: In 1996, NOAA's National Oceanographic Data
Center (NODC) released the final version (#8) of the NODC Taxonomic
Code on CD-ROM. This CD-ROM, now out of date, provided the old NODC
codes along with their new ITIS Taxonomic Serial Numbers (TSNs) to
facilitate the transition to the new Integrated
Taxonomic Information System (ITIS).
From that point in time the NODC code was frozen, and ITIS assumed
responsibility for assigning new TSN codes, and verifying accepted
scientific names and synonyms. ITIS is supported by a partnership
of U.S. and international organizations, including NOAA/NODC. ITIS
contains nearly 300,000 entries for terrestrial, marine, and freshwater
species from all biological kingdoms. While it focuses on North American
species (driven by the priorities of the current ITIS partners), it
also includes worldwide treatment of selected groups of fishes, birds,
reptiles, molluscs, corals, and other groups. ITIS is continually
seeking new partnerships, and expanding its coverage.

the NODC Taxonomic Code on CD-ROM
- Gulf
of Mexico Hydrographic Data & Marine Mammal CD-ROM - produced
in cooperation with Texas A&M University (TAMU). It includes hydrographic
data and marine mammal sightings for the Gulf of Mexico. The marine
mammal data (1992-1994) is from the GulfCet Program, sponsored by
the U.S. Minerals Management Service and headquartered at the TAMU
Galveston Campus.
- NODC's
Ocean Archive System can also be queried
for biology data.
- Prior
to 1994 the NODC merged biological datasets into several different
standard formats (the old MULDARS formats). These included datasets
on intertidal and benthic organisms, bird and marine mammal sightings,
shellfish surveys, fin rot, bacteria, and others. Go to the Data
Formats webpage for the format descriptions. To order data in
the MULDARS formats please contact NODC
User Services.
