Sustainable Fisheries Division
is responsible for fishery management activities off the U.S. West Coast. Responsibilities include working with the
Pacific Fishery Management Council
to develop and implement fishery management plans (FMPs) under the authority of the
Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act
, and managing fisheries in-season. This division administers the West Coast
groundfish
and
salmon
fishery management plans, and supports
Pacific halibut management
through the
International Pacific Halibut Commission
. It analyzes fishery management actions for economic and regulatory impact. Sustainable Fisheries provides support to the U.S. Section of the
Pacific Salmon Commission
and implementation of the
Pacific Salmon Treaty
. It administers
grants
to West Coast states and the
Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission
for fishery information under the Magnuson Act,
Anadromous Fish Conservation Act
,
Interjurisdictional Fisheries Act
, and the
Saltonstall-Kennedy
grant programs. Division staff members work out of the Northwest Region’s Seattle and Lacey offices.
