The Ophir Creek watershed serves as a spawning and rearing habitat for large populations of pacific salmon and trout species. Important sport, commercial, and subsistence fisheries rely on production from the Ophir Creek system. The area's coho salmon sport fishery is world renowned. The productive anadromous fish habitat of Ophir Creek has been impaired by past land use practices including road construction, development and logging.
The goal addressed was the degradation of a locally important salmon stream by road construction and logging.
