Welcome
to the SSAB
The
Social Security Advisory Board (SSAB) is an independent,
bipartisan board created by Congress and appointed
by the President and the Congress to advise the
President, the Congress, and the Commissioner
of Social Security on matters related to the Social
Security and Supplemental Security
Income programs.
In
1994, when the Congress passed legislation establishing
the Social Security Administration as an independent
agency, it also created a 7-member bipartisan
Advisory Board to advise the President, the Congress,
and the Commissioner of Social Security on Social
Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
policy. The conference report on this legislation
passed both Houses of Congress without opposition.
President Clinton signed the Social Security Independence
and Program Improvements Act of 1994 into law
on August 15, 1994 (P.L. 103-296).
All correspondence
