Pilot Records Improvement Act of 1996 (PRIA)
The Pilot Records Improvement Act of 1996 (PRIA) requires that a hiring air carrier under 14 CFR part 121 and 135, or a hiring air operator under 14 CFR part 125, request, receive, and evaluate certain information concerning a pilot/applicant's training, experience, qualifications, and safety background, before allowing that individual to begin service with their company as a pilot. This process allows the entity to make a more informed hiring decision.
Individuals or Companies Not Under the Authority of PRIA Seeking a Verification Letter
Individuals or companies not under the authority of PRIA that are seeking a verification letter of the medical and airman certificates, accident and incident report, and enforcement history may submit this request under the authority of the Privacy Act or the Freedom Of Information Act. Individuals should use the Privacy Act request; companies should use the FOIA request. See Instructions to initiate a PA or FOIA (MS Word) request for sample requests and additional information.
