Why Attend
This meeting for users of AHRQ's Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS®) surveys and Surveys on Patient Safety Culture (SOPS) will offer updates on instrument development, information on how the surveys are being used, and recent research findings. This is the first of a series of joint user group meetings for these two programs.
This conference is an excellent opportunity to learn from and network with AHRQ staff, members of the CAHPS® and SOPS research teams, and survey users.
Target Audience
The meeting is designed for both current and prospective survey users as well as anyone interested in learning about the instruments, associated reporting tools, and efforts to use these surveys to improve patients' experiences and patient safety. Likely attendees include medical directors, safety directors and staff members, clinic and hospital administrators, quality improvement directors and staff, customer service managers, member/patient education managers, marketing directors, and researchers focusing on health care quality and safety.
Agenda Highlights
December 3, 2008: A preconference "CAHPS® College" will introduce new users to the CAHPS® program, its principles, its products, and the survey development process (scheduled for the afternoon).
December 4-5, 2008: Three CAHPS® tracks and one SOPS track will run concurrently through the main conference.
The CAHPS® sessions will include:
- Adaptations of the CAHPS® Clinician & Group Survey, including a visit-specific instrument and other questionnaires in development.
- An update on the CAHPS® Hospital Survey (H-CAHPS®) from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and examples of how hospitals are using their results.
- Updates on the CAHPS® Nursing Home Surveys and the CAHPS® Home Health Care Survey.
- Insights into promoting consumer engagement with public reports on quality.
- Guidance on using CAHPS® survey results to drive improvements in patient care.
- An overview of a new CAHPS® Database interactive reporting system.
The SOPS sessions will include:
- Results from the Hospital SOPS 2008 Comparative Database.
- New Medical Office and Nursing Home Surveys on Patient Safety Culture.
- Survey administration issues in hospital, medical office, and nursing home settings.
- How to interpret results for action planning.
- Improvement initiatives Hospital SOPS users have implemented.
- International SOPS activities.
