Florida Agriculture Commissioner Charles H. Bronson is alerting the state's agricultural producers that some highway restrictions have been eased to enable them to quickly harvest and transport crops that are vulnerable to the impending freezing weather conditions. "Freezing weather creates a serious situation for our state’s agricultural producers, who now must rush to harvest their commodities to prevent the loss of this season’s crops," Bronson said. "The temporary easing of some highway restrictions allows farmers to more quickly transport their crops to processing facilities, thereby avoiding financial disaster."

Florida Agriculture Commissioner Charles H. Bronson and the Florida Agricultural Hall of Fame Foundation have announced the agricultural leaders who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in February 2009. They are: Dr. James Griffiths of Winter Haven; Richard Kelly of Tallahassee; Kay Richardson of Evinston; and Mason Smoak of Lake Placid. They will be inducted into the Florida Agricultural Hall of Fame during the 31st annual awards celebration February 10, 2009, during the Florida State Fair in Tampa. These four inductees will bring the total to 128.

Patricia “Patsy” Nathe of Dade City, co-owner of R.J. Nathe and Sons logging company and Tall Timber Cattle and Grove, has been selected to receive the “Woman of the Year in Agriculture Award” for 2008. Florida Agriculture Commissioner Charles H. Bronson is scheduled to present the award to Nathe on February 5, 2009, during the opening-day luncheon at the Florida State Fair in Tampa.
