2008 Safe Summer Campaign
It's summertime, and teens are at high risk to start drinking. What's more, teen drunk-driving deaths are at their highest levels.
Let's make it a safe summer.
Don’t serve alcohol to teens.
Who
Parents, older relatives and friends, schools, communities, law enforcement, and businesses can fight underage drinking.
Why
- Teen drinking is linked to injury and risky behavior.
- Most teens who drink alcohol get it from friends and family. Protect teens by stopping easy teen access to alcohol — don’t serve alcohol to teens, tell others you oppose teen drinking, and keep track of the alcohol in your home.
- During the past 10 years, teen alcohol use has dropped substantially, along with teen perceptions that alcohol is easy to get.
When
June 1 - September 1, 2008
What You Can Do
- Download a Safe Summer poster and post it at your school or business.
- Ask your local radio station to run a "We Don't Serve Teens" public service announcement.
- Post a "We Don't Serve Teens" banner on your website.
- Write a letter to the editor of your newspaper.
- Tell why you oppose teen drinking — here are answers to common questions about teens and alcohol.
