Wilt
Chamberlain, a Los Angeles Laker basketball player,
made an inflammatory remark after a long delay
prior to boarding a TWA flight from Chicago to
Philadelphia with the Laker Team. The remark
was brought to the attention of TWA officials,
who questioned Chamberlain and the coach in the
jet way of the plane. Chamberlain became belligerent
and left the boarding area. He later flew to
Philadelphia via United Air Lines. United States
Custom officials did not consider the remarks
a threat, and did not file a complaint against
Chamberlain. It was reported that he had made
a bet on the Lakers winning the sixth game of
the play offs in 1969 between Chicago and Boston.
There were other allegations and/or rumors of
his betting on basketball games.
