Billy
Carter (William A. Carter, III) is the brother of former
President Jimmy Carter. In 1978, Carter met with a group
of businessmen who were interested in meeting him and
for the purpose of visiting Libya. The Libyans had advised
the group they were interested in investing in businesses
in Atlanta, Georgia. The group finally got together
in Plains, Georgia and extended their invitation to
Billy Carter to visit Libya. A group of businessmen
and some lawyers from the Plains area went to Libya
where they were entertained by the American Representatives
and some Libyan representatives, but never met with
Qadaffi, the Libyan leader. After the return home, no
business deals were ever made between the groups, but
Billy Carter did secure some personal loans from the
Libyan Government.
