Odessa's 11 community parks offer a wide variety of activities such as softball, tennis, swimming and playgrounds year-round. Notable parks include McKinney Park with huge lighted Christmas holiday displays; barrier-free Progressive Park, designed to meet the needs of disabled children; and Noël Heritage Plaza, which hosts numerous outdoor cultural events throughout the year and a beautiful display of Christmas lights during the holiday. Memorial Gardens is a tribute to the original pioneer families who settled this area. A bronze steer is depicted descending a two-tiered waterfall to drink from the playa lake.
