Just across channel from Port of Galveston, island is site of industrial and recreational development. Newport Corp. and Texas A&M Univ. at Galveston on south edge. On northern point is Seawolf Park where port's federal quarantine station once stood. Scenic location edged by palms and banks of oleanders with picnic facilities and excellent lighted fishing pier.
