Durst-Taylor Historic House & Gardens

City: Nacogdoches | Region: Piney Woods

This circa 1830s home was occupied by several great Texas pioneers including Joseph Durst, found-er of the Texas town of Angelina and Alcalde (mayor) of Nacogdoches; Issac W. Burton, veteran of the Battle of San Jacinto; Bennet Blake, delegate to the 1875 Constitutional Convention; and Thomas J. Rusk, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence and one of Texas' first two U.S. Senators. The grounds of this historic landmark includes a blacksmith shop, smokehouse, and historic gardens.
