March 1-2, 2008 Washington-on-the-Brazos SHS - Texas Independence Day Celebration - Join us at the "Birthplace of Texas" and celebrate 172 years of Texas Independence. Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site honors the 59 men who met here in March 1836 to declare Texas a free and independent nation. Historical re-enactors, skilled craftsmen and period musicians transport visitors back to a time when Texas was a struggling young nation throughout the weekend celebration. A special ceremony will be held Sunday afternoon honoring Texas' past and present ending with a Texas sized birthday cake. Tour fees will be waived on this special weekend so all Texans can learn about our common heritage. Accessible for the mobility impaired. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. (936) 878-2214.

March 9, 2008 San Jacinto Battleground SHS - 25th Annual Fords of the 50s Old Car Show and Picnic - See hundreds of classic cars, none newer than 1980 models. Bring your picnic basket and enjoy good food, folks and fun! Accessible for the mobility impaired. April 5, 2008 Cedar Hill SP - 7th Annual Cedar Hill Expo - Enjoy a fun filled day in which you can participate in many of the programs we offer. Some of the events include reptile programs, bass casting for kids, a wildflower walk, archery and kayaking. Game Wardens will also be available throughout the day to answer questions regarding TPWD regulations. The Cedar Hill Cartwrights Vintage Baseball Club will be holding a vintage baseball tournament and club sign-up. April 9, 2008 San Angelo SP - Silver Bluebonnet Event - Senior citizens are invited to the park as guests of the Friends of San Angelo State Park. Seminars will be given by local enthusiasts on wildflowers, birds and animals will have exhibits and give demonstrations and seminars. Park trailer tours will also be given. A free lunch will be served following the seminars. 9 a.m.-noon (325) 949-4757.

May 3, 2008 Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center - Cinco De Mayo - Celebrate the joint heritage of Texas and Mexico with food, games, music and more. 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (903) 676-BASS.

May 17, 2008 Sea Center Texas - Gordon the Grouper's Birthday Party - To celebrate, kids of all ages are invited to explore coastal mystery boxes and make a fish print. Birthday cake and lemonade will be served. Visitors are sure to have lots of fun and photo opportunities. 10 a.m.-noon; free admission, but donations are appreciated. May 18, 2008 San Jacinto Battleground SHS - 18th Annual Monumental Bug Bash - The Bay Area Volkswagen Club hosts their annual car picnic. Oodles and oodles of bugs and beetles are featured! All makes and models of VW's welcome. Food and drinks are available or bring your own picnic lunch and enjoy the day.
