2005 - 2006 Texas Influenza Surveillance Information
The flu activity code for CDC week 41 ending October 15, 2005 is 1, indicating sporadic activity.
Influenza-like activity was reported in Health Service Regions (HSRs) 3, 6/5S, 7, 8, 9/10, and 11. HSRs 1 and 2 reported no flu activity. One region did not report. Three HSRs reported increased activity since the previous report. For a map of Health Service Regions, please visit the following website:

The first culture confirmed influenza A has been identified in a 76 year-old woman from Waco by Scott and White laboratories. Several counties report positive rapid flu tests for both A and B.
Data from the Sentinel Provider Surveillance Network (SPSN) indicates a marked increase in influenza-like illness (ILI) from the previous week (Week 40); however, a variety of factors can cause these spikes; including new reporters and the circulation of other bacterial and viral diseases. A small number of reports being submitted, which is often the case at the beginning of the season, can also skew the data.
