2005 - 2006 Texas Influenza Surveillance Information

The flu activity level for the week ending March 25, 2006 is regional. This represents a reduction in the state’s flu activity level from widespread for the first time this season. Limited flu activity was reported in all 11 regions of the state. Overall, flu activity continues to decrease across the state.

Reports were received from all 11 Health Service Regions (HSRs) for week 12. Only HSR 8 reported an increase in flu activity. Activity remained about the same in HSRs 1, 6/5S, 9/10, and 11. A decrease in flu activity was reported in HSRs 2/3, 4/5N, and 7. For a map of Health Service Regions, please visit the following website:

During week 12, culture confirmed influenza A was identified in Bexar and Harris Counties.

Culture confirmed influenza B was identified in Brazos and Harris Counties during week 12.

No institutional outbreaks or school closures were reported.

Data from the Sentinel Provider Surveillance Network (SPSN) shows the level of influenza-like illness remains approximately the same as the previous week.
