WELCOME FROM BOARD CHAIR
JEANNIE MCGUIRE, LBSW

Welcome to the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners (TSBSWE) Web Site.

We are pleased to be able to offer access to useful information for consumers and professionals regarding our law, rules, disciplinary actions, and roster of licensed social workers. We hope you will visit the site often to update and refresh your understanding of the various levels of licensed social workers and our standards of practice.

You will find useful information regarding social work practice such as client confidentiality, the family code, and mental health law in Texas. The Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners is a state agency with rule making authority governed by a nine member Board appointed by the Governor. The board is administratively attached to the Texas Department of State Health Services.

The Board usually meets once each quarter (first Friday and Saturday of March, June, September and December). During board meeting weekends, all committees of the board (Ethics, Licensing Standards and Qualification, Professional Development and Rules will meet on Friday with the full board meeting taking place on Saturday morning. The Ethics Committee usually meets four additional times a year (January, April, July and October) in Austin. Our meetings are always posted in accordance with the Open Meetings Act in the Texas Register, and are always open to the public. We invite you to attend our meetings when we are in Austin, or perhaps meeting in your part of the state.

The Board and staff welcome your input, comments, concerns, and suggestions by letter, telephone, E-mail, or fax. We want to hear from you on all issues of concern to you as a consumer, stakeholder, or provider of social work services. If you hope to become licensed as a social worker in Texas, we welcome you! We hope to be available to facilitate a smooth transition from student to licensed professional social worker.

It is a pleasure to serve as Chair of the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners, and I hope you will let me know how I can better serve the profession and consumers of social work services. Thank you and welcome.

Best Regards

Jeannie McGuire, LBSW
