REP - Radiological Emergency Preparedness:   AREP - Advanced Radiological Emergency Preparedness:

 

This 8-hour performance based (hands-on) course is designed for personnel selected as emergency first responders to a radiological incident. Topics include a review of radiation fundamentals, biological effects of ionizing radiation, radiation detection instruments, survey techniques, radiological protective actions, decontamination procedures, radiation hazards, radiological terrorist threats & first responder actions. This course is EMS and TCLEOSE credited. Suggested Prerequisite: FEMA Independent Study Course IS-3:Radiological Emergency Management

 

 

This 32-hour performance based (hands-on)course is designed for individuals assigned to local radiological response teams. In-depth and fast-paced, instruction covers the concepts of radiation protection, radiation detection instruments and monitoring techniques, radiological hazards & protective actions, team building, emergency procedures & support planning, ICS, NIMS, & exercises for first response, patient handling & recovery activities. Prerequisite: REP or HREP

HREP - Hospital Radiological Emergency Preparedness: Modular Emergency Radiological Response Transportation Training (MERRTT)

 

This 8-hour performance based (hands-on) course is designed primarily for clinical staff, public health & facility administrators. Topics include: radiation fundamentals, biological effects of ionizing radiation, medical management of radiological casualties, radiation
detection instruments & monitoring techniques, radiological hazards, protective actions & patient handling, and radiological & nuclear terrorism threat. Suggested prerequisite: FEMA Independent Study Course IS-3: Radiological Emergency Management

Accreditation

 

 

MERRTT will provide Emergency Responders with fundamental knowledge and skills required to respond with confidence to incidnets involving radioactive materials and transuranic radioactive waste along the IH WIPP route corridor. Typical course length is eight hours.

In addition, an eight hour Medical Management course is also available through DSHS.
