City: Plano | Region: Prairies and Lakes

Between 1908 and 1948 the Texas Electric Railway ran from Denison to Waco, linking small rural towns to big cities like Dallas and Fort Worth. Plano's Interurban Station was completed in 1908 and served as passenger depot and electric station. City of Plano restored building to its original condition in late 1980s. Today, museum contains memorabilia of railway history as well as overview of Plano's history. New interactive displays include an "O" scale model layout and model of rotary converter used to change alternating current to direct current to power interurban cars. Also, TERy Car #360 has been restored and is open for tours. In Haggard Park. No admission fee, but donations welcome.
