Whether you are a first-generation or fifth-generation Texan, you share a proud heritage of independence and individualism. To celebrate this heritage, the Texas Legislature authorized the creation of an “heirloom” birth certificate. This legal birth certificate celebrates the unique heritage of being a Native Texan.

These personalized certificates have a specially designed engraved intaglio border, heirloom-quality paper, and background security features.

State law prevents issuance of this certificate to persons whose birth certificates were established by court order or delayed record procedures.

How to order

• If you are an immediate family member of the person whose name is on the birth certificate, you can request an heirloom record by following the same instructions as those for requesting a certified copy of a birth record. The form used is the same. See the Certified Copy of a Birth Certificate page for instructions.



• If you are not an immediate family member, we have designed a special gift certificate that can be ordered by you for the person whose name is on the birth certificate. This gift certificate can then be redeemed by that person, or an immediate family member, for an heirloom certificate.
