Breast and Cervical Cancer Statistics

The enabling legislation for BCCS is the Breast and Cervical Cancer Mortality Prevention Act of 1990 (42 U.S.C. § 300k and Amendments) . Among the requirements are

  1. Evaluations of grantee programs and;
  2. Reporting of these evaluations yearly to Congress (§ 300n-4).

BCCS collects de-identified data on all screenings performed to ensure that quality of care standards are met. These data are aggregated at the national level to measure the effectiveness of the breast and cervical cancer screenings and for required evaluation and reporting.
