Project Description

The SH 360 improvement project is designed to expand SH 360 through Arlington and Grand Prairie from IH 20 to just north of IH 30, including the IH 30/SH 360 interchange. Most of the proposed improvements are not currently funded.

The existing SH 360 Corridor includes three general purpose lanes each direction. Proposed improvements include four lanes each direction from IH 30 to Abram Street, with allowance for possible future expansion to five lanes each direction built into the median. Four lanes each direction would be constructed from Abram Street to IH 20 within the existing 12-foot-wide inside shoulders. Division Street and the adjacent Union Pacific Railroad bridge will be reconstructed to accommodate the new SH 360 main lanes and permit continuous frontage roads in approximately 2007. Flyover ramps directly connecting the main lanes of IH 30 to SH 360 are also planned.

The SH 360 improvements have an estimated cost of approximately $380 million, including the directing-connecting ramps at the IH 30 interchange, right of way acquisition, contingencies, and design-related costs. This cost does not include approximately $95 million in improvements for IH 30 between Ballpark Way and the Dallas County line.

The purposes of the SH-360 corridor improvements are to relieve north-south traffic congestion; improve mobility, safety and air quality; and maintain accessibility to businesses and public facilities.

Two other studies have been performed in the region. One study examines needed improvements to I-30 in eastern Tarrant County from west of Loop 820 to the Tarrant/Dallas County line, and the other includes the recently approved Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the SH 161 in western Dallas County. The I-30 study is being completed by the Fort Worth District office of TxDOT and the schematic is being developed by the City of Arlington as part of their "Three Bridges" project. The Dallas District office of TxDOT completed the SH 161 EIS.

A public hearing took place in October 2006 to discuss the proposed plan and environmental effects for reconstruction of SH 360, and to provide an opportunity for the public to offer additional comments and concerns.

TxDOT received a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the project in February 2007.
