November 2007World Birding Center - Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley SPBird Walk — Every Monday. Come and try for the "Bentsen Hat Trick" of subtropical bird species: clay-colored robin, northern beardless-tyrannulet, and ferruginous pygmy-owl; then look for a hook-billed kite to complete the "Bentsen Grand Slam." Gray hawk, ringed kingfisher and groove-billed ani are among other highly sought species regularly seen here. Bring binoculars, a field guide, sunscreen, bug repellent and water, or buy it all in our park store before the walk. Featured Event January 2, 2008World Birding Center - Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley SPAnzalduas/Bentsen Christmas Bird Count — Join Bentsen staff and volunteers as they participate in the 107th year of this nationwide tradition, tallying as many birds as possible with a 15-mile-diameter circle that includes the park. Participants, working in teams, may opt for a few hours' counting, an all-day marathon or anything in between. A potluck dinner and "countdown" wraps up the action. 7 a.m.-9 p.m.; fee $5 per participant helps the National Audubon Society analyze the results; reservations required (956) 584-9156.
