ORGANIZATIONS

Texas State Library and Archives Commission
The Texas State Library and Archives Commission is a sponsoring organization for the Library of Texas projects. "The mission of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission is to preserve the record of government for public scrutiny, to secure and make accessible historically significant records and other valuable resources, to meet the reading needs of Texans with disabilities, to build and sustain statewide partnerships to improve library programs and services, and to enhance the capacity for achievement of individuals and institutions with whom we work."

TexShare Programs
TexShare is a cooperative program designed to improve service to Texans. Members include public libraries that belong to the regional library systems, academic libraries, and libraries of clinical medicine. TexShare enables libraries to offer a broader range of materials and services than any single library can provide for its constituents. "Established in 1993 for 53 publicly-supported four-year academic libraries, TexShare has evolved into a consortium of 600 community college, university, medical school, and public libraries providing cooperative purchasing for online information databases, courier delivery service of library materials, and a statewide borrower’s card."

University of North Texas - Texas Center for Digital Knowledge (TXCDK)
"The Texas Center for Digital Knowledge is a research, development and consulting service enterprise that brings together top researchers in information science, criminal justice, business information systems, and technology and cognition to provide a collaborative framework for enhancing the relationships between individual knowledge workers and the technology-based environments in which they work to advance today's global economy." "The mission of the Texas Center for Digital Knowledge (TxCDK) is to stimulate and support interdisciplinary research encompassing theoretical frameworks and practical applications that can enhance the creation, storage, organization, retrieval, use and evaluation of information in a wide variety of digital formats."

ADVISORY GROUPS

Z LOT Implementation Working Group (Virtual Library)
The "Z" refers to the ANSI/ information retrieval protocol that allows for searching of multiple online library catalogs through a single interface.

TexShare Electronic Information Working Group (TexShare Databases)
The TexShare Electronic Information Working Group reviews and recommends electronic information products (databases), and also accepts input from member libraries.

Government Information Team (GIT) (Electronic Depository Program)
GIT consists of a broad-based team of professional librarians with experience in the following disciplines: - archival preservation, cataloging, records management, IT technologies, depository programs, and reference. The Team will use research and consensus as part of their decision-making process when developing the Electronic Depository Program.

TexShare Education Program Working Group (Training for Librarians)
GIT consists of a broad-based team of professional librarians with experience in the following disciplines: - archival preservation, cataloging, records management, IT technologies, depository programs, and reference. The Team will use research and consensus as part of their decision-making process when developing the Electronic Depository Program.
