place,
for the following reasons, viz[:]
The Garrison is without the bounds
of the Nation, and is individual pro-
perty. When Indians are called there
I cannot prohibit the sale of spirits to them.
Here I can. You know General
Jackson how difficult is to keep
Indians sober? And also how impossible
it is to transact business with them
when intoxicated? Mr Smith etc. etc. etc.
has a store at the Garrison and also keeps spirits
&
from good authority, I have learned sells
them. Again the more immidiately [sic]
business, and the stores are under my
inspection the better able I will be
to transact the business of the agency. |
