Sam Houston to Thomas J. Rusk, August 1838

Women and children are here
driven by panic—and to the
East they were breaking, but I
sent two men, on to San Augustin[e]
and another to Shelby—with
orders to send to Sabine & Jasper[.]

I have sent orders by Express
to General Ayer to hold his
Brigade in readiness, and
subject to orders in future.

I have the honor
to be Your Obt
Servt.

Sam Houston

To
Maj Genl
T.J Rusk
Comig G etc.
