Medical Transportation Program
Service Restrictions

Under federal and state regulations, MTP cannot provide services when transportation is included in the daily rates of programs such as nursing homes (unless the client requires dialysis treatment) or day activity and health services (DAHS), nor transportation to health-care services not covered by Medicaid.  However, nursing facilities may use the medical transportation program services to transport recipient residents for renal dialysis treatment.

MTP does not provide ambulance services. Ambulance transportation may be available for Medicaid recipients in emergencies, but MTP does not make those arrangements. Persons needing an ambulance in an emergency should call their local emergency number. Medicaid recipients needing non-emergency ambulance services should have their health-care provider contact the Medicaid Claims Administrator Ambulance Unit at (800) 925-9126 to secure authorization.
