Birth Defects Epidemiology and Surveillance Collects data on births occurring throughout the state of Texas. Identifies and describes patterns of birth defects in Texas; and collaborates with others to find the causes of birth defects and work toward their prevention.

Cancer Registry Maintains a population-based cancer incidence reporting system that collects, analyzes and disseminates information on all new cases of cancer.

Cardiovascular Health & Wellness Program Provides technical assistance, consultation, and training to health agencies/sites, worksites, schools, and communities at large to affect change for the prevention of cardiovascular disease and stroke.

Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program-CLPPP Educates providers, parents, and the general public about childhood lead poisoning and iron anemia. Conducts monitoring and surveillance for children with lead poisoning.

Chronic Disease Prevention Chronic Disease Prevention at DSHS provides information, education, resources, and assistance to the people of Texas to make healthy life choices, reduce the human and economic impact of poor health, reduce the incidence of premature death and disability, and promote healthy communities.

Community Preparedness Section Provides strategic leadership and direction to ensure public health preparedness for bioterrorism, natural epidemics, and other public health threats and emergencies in Texas.

Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication Combines the urgency of disaster communication with the need to communicate risks and benefits to stakeholders and the public. The site offers links, resources and training information in the area of risk communication.
