Job Description: LP-gas instructor, with primary responsibility for courses 3.3, Appliance Conversion, Installation and Venting; 3.5, Residential Appliance Controls; 3.7, Electrical Troubleshooting and Repair of Residential Gas Appliances; and 3.8, Recreational Vehicle (RV) Gas Appliances. Prepares and conducts 8-hour classes and demonstrations for LP-gas service and installation technicians and RV appliance technicians in the division’s technical training program. Work is performed under the supervision of the Assistant Division Director for Research and Technical Services, with considerable latitude for use of initiative and independent judgment. Job requires the ability to operate a vehicle and to travel up to 50% of the time. Administers qualifying examinations in conjunction with classes as assigned. Related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Three years’ directly pertinent experience in LP-gas training. Expert knowledge of LP-gas appliance and RV appliance regulations, standards, installation, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair. Effective oral communication and class-management skills are required. Must have physical ability to climb to a height of 15 feet, stoop and reach low and high areas. Must be able to load and unload equipment for training purposes and lift or move up to 50-75 pounds with or without assistance. Vo-tech or equivalent classroom teaching experience, applicable Railroad Commission LP-gas certification, and fluency in Spanish are preferred.
Remarks (Application procedure, Special requirements): Travel (including some overnight travel) up to 50 percent. A good driving record is required and a Motor Vehicle records check will be made in order to comply with the Railroad Commission's Motor Vehicle Operating Policy.
