November 2007 Fort Leaton SHS - Pancho Villa Rides Again! - Pancho rides into Fort Leaton and will be staying with us a while. This traveling exhibit, on loan from the Museum of the Big Bend at Sul Ross State University, tells the story of the Battle of Ojinaga that occurred just across the river from Fort Leaton and was a turning point in the Mexican Revolution. 8 a.m.-4 p.m. daily; fee $3 includes entry fee to museum; advance reservations required for groups. November 2007 Fort Richardson SP&HS & Lost Creek Reservoir State Trailway - Guided Historical Tours - This Ranger-led tour takes place on the actual 1867 fort grounds and includes six of the remaining seven original historic buildings. The walk is approximately one mile in length. Held Monday-Friday 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.; weekends interpretive staff on site and buildings open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. for self-guided tours. (940) 567-3506.

Take a guided, walking tour with a trained docent through the ruins of one of the first breweries in Texas. Learn how German immigrant, Heinrich Kreische, built and operated one of the first commercial 19th century breweries. December 1, 2007 Battleship Texas SHS - Pearl Harbor Ceremony - The event commemorates the December 7, 1941 bombing of Pearl Harbor, bringing the U.S. into World War II. Join us in paying our respects to those whose sacrifices saved our freedom. The San Jacinto Chapter Pearl Harbor Survivors Association will be featured in this annual ceremony, hosted by Battleship TEXAS and sponsored by the Texas Commandry of the Naval Order of the United States. 11 a.m.-noon; fees free Texas State Parks Pass members, $10 non-members, $5 senior citizens, free for children 12 and under (281) 479-2431.

December 1, 2007 Lockhart SP - Lockhart State Park and the Civilian Conservation Corps - The park was built by the Civilian Conservation Corp and opened in 1941. A slide show will be given on the park's construction and the lives of the CCC enrollees. 6-7 p.m. (512) 398-3479.

December 7-8, 2007 San Jacinto Monument SHS - San Jacinto Museum Family Days - Bring the family and enjoy free tours of Drawn from Experience: Landmark Maps of Texas at the San Jacinto Museum of History, an exhibit that features more than fifty important maps depicting Texas and the Gulf Coast region that date from the 16th century to the present on Friday and children's crafts relating to the map exhibit on Saturday. Re-enactors in period dress will greet visitors on Saturday. Ride the famous 489-foot elevator to the top of the monument, view the digital presentation Texas Forever!! The Battle of San Jacinto, learn about Texas through a visit to the San Jacinto Museum of History, located at the base of the Monument. December 21, 2007 Government Canyon SNA - How Did Native Americans Celebrate Special Occasions? Part 1: Native Cooking and Plant Usage - Take a guided hike through rocky terrain to a burned rock midden with Site Naturalist Carl Green and Ranger Brian Davis-Brothers. Learn how the Native Americans used local plants for cooking and celebrating. Open to ages 12 and older; group size limited; wear sturdy shoes and weather appropriate clothing; bring at least a quart of water and a snack. January 12, 2008 Goliad SP - Los Pastores - Created when Spain came to the New World, shepherd's plays were used to teach Native Americans about Spanish culture and religion through song and dance. Come find out what it was like to be an 18th Century Native American new to the sights and sounds of Mission Espiritu Santo! January 19, 2008 Battleship Texas SHS - Hard Hat Tours - Take a guided tour of the Battleship TEXAS, entering areas rarely seen by the public! Bring a flashlight or headlamp, wear old comfortable clothes, rubber sole shoes and bring a camera if you wish. There will be four three-and-one-half hour tours beginning at 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. A limited number of tour slots are open to anyone 13 and older by reservation ONLY. March 28-29, 2008 Barrington Living History Farm-Washington-on-the-Brazos SHS - True Texas Women - Come celebrate Women's History Month and explore the lives of the "gentle tamers and sunbonneted helpmates" that settled the Texas frontier. Experience the life of 19th century women from their clothing and cosmetics to cooking, cleaning and childbirth and relive their days filled with loneliness, fear and uncertainty. March 29-30, 2008 San Angelo SP - Cowboy Celebration - Return to the old west as the Friends of San Angelo State Park host this weekend that will include trail rides, chuck wagon meals, old west re-enactors, Texas Longhorns, cowboy entertainment and Sunday Cowboy Church. April 12, 2008 Mission Tejas SP - Folk Festival - Demonstrations and reenactments from the nineteenth century will entertain and educate the public about life before lightswithches graced most homes. These demonstrations may include basket making, blacksmithing, spinning and weaving, bucket making, potterymaking, pioneer toys and games, doing laundry the hard way and many others. Military reenactors may include the volunteer armies of the Republic of Texas, Civil War soldiers, Buffalo Soldiers and cowboy reenactors. April 19-20, 2008 Barrington Living History Farm-Washington-on-the-Brazos SHS - Spring Roundup - Cattle and swine have been an integral part of Texas since the earliest days. The ranching industry in Texas is a combination of Anglo and Spanish traditions and practices. Come out and learn how livestock was managed and maintained on a 19th century Brazos Valley farm. April 19, 2008 Inks Lake SP - Texas Time Machine - Come see the history of 1850s Texas unfold before your eyes. April 26, 2008 San Jacinto Battleground SHS - San Jacinto Day Festival and Battle Re-enactment - Enjoy living history encampments and re-enactors in period costume, demonstrations of weapons, activities for children and more. At 3 p.m., a re-enactment of the famous 1836 battle which won Texas' Independence from Mexico will be fought. Cannon and musket fire will fill the air with the sights and sounds of April 21, 1836! May 10, 2008 Battleship Texas SHS - Hard Hat Tours - Take a guided tour of the Battleship TEXAS, entering areas rarely seen by the public! Bring a flashlight or headlamp, wear old comfortable clothes, rubber sole shoes and bring a camera if you wish.
