Conditional Grant Program

The Conditional Grant Program is available to eligible students majoring in civil engineering, computer science, computer information systems and management information systems.

Students accepted into the program receive up to $3,000 per semester or $6,000 per academic year, based on financial need. Please read below for eligibility requirements. If you are eligible, we encourage you to apply [pdf, 10 pages, 113kb].

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the Conditional Grant Program, you must be economically disadvantaged, and you must also:

  • be a Texas resident eligible to work in the U.S.,
  • have a minimum high school grade point average of 3.00 on a four-point scale, or
    • a minimum score of 850 on the SAT or
    • a minimum score of 21 on the ACT,
  • plan to attend an accredited four-year Texas public college or university as a full-time student (minimum 12 semester hours),
  • declare an intent to seek a four-year degree in civil engineering, computer science, computer information systems or management information systems,
  • agree to work for TxDOT for two years immediately following graduation, and
  • not be more than 30 days delinquent in providing child support under a court order or written repayment plan.

Students already enrolled in an undergraduate program are eligible if they meet income requirements and:

  • are Texas residents eligible to work in the U.S.,
  • have a minimum overall GPA of 2.50 on a four-point scale,
  • attend or have enrolled at an accredited four-year Texas public college or university and maintain a minimum of 12 semester hours,
  • declare or intend to declare a major in civil engineering, computer science, management information systems or computer information systems,
  • agree to work for TxDOT for two years immediately after graduation,
  • are not more than 30 days delinquent in providing child support under a court order or written repayment plan, and
  • are not currently repaying TxDOT for a previously awarded conditional grant.

Economically Disadvantaged

To be eligible for the conditional grant program, a student must meet the federal definition of economically disadvantaged, which is based on adjusted gross household income levels.

The following figures shown under family size and income levels represent amounts equal to 225 percent of the family income levels effective January 24, 2007. This data will determine student’s initial eligibility for the Conditional Grant Program FY 2007-2008.
