Texas Medicaid Program


Medicaid is the State and Federal cooperative venture that provides medical coverage to eligible needy persons. The purpose of Medicaid in Texas is to improve the health of people who might otherwise go without medical care for themselves and their children. Medicaid is different in every state. HHSC's Medicaid Office is responsible for statewide oversight of the Texas Medicaid Program

  • HHSC is requesting nominations to the Pilot Project to Simplify, Streamline and Reduce Costs Associated with Medicaid Cost Reporting and Auditing Process for Certain Providers Workgroup. The application deadline is Nov. 1, 2007. [Solicitation letter and application]

  • Employee Education about False Claims Recoveries
    Effective Jan. 1, 2007, all providers and other entities that receive or make annual Medicaid payments of $5 million or more must educate employees, contractors and agents about federal and state fraud and false claims laws, and the whistleblower protections available under those laws.

  • Texas MedicareRX
    The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) are beginning a targeted public awareness campaign designed to help certain Texans take advantage of the new federal drug prescription benefit, Medicare Rx. HHSC and DSHS also have developed a website designed to provide clients with more information specific to their current situation and the transition to Medicare Rx.   • Frew v. Hawkins: Joint Motion for Corrective Action [En Español] [Expenditure Plan]
    The Texas Health and Human Services Commission has agreed to corrective actions in a lawsuit over utilization of preventive services by Texas children who have Medicaid. The agreement includes 11 corrective action plans.

  • Alberto N. v. Hawkins
    HHSC has settled a lawsuit that affects Texas Health Steps, Comprehensive Care Program-eligible children under 21 years of age. The terms of the settlement apply to Medicaid-funded nursing services, personal care services and durable medical equipment and supplies.
